Overview
Chiara Visentin is currently a PhD candidate in the Medieval Studies Program at Cornell University. She has an academic background in political philosophy and historical sociology. She is interested in researching the transformations of political cultures, identities, and institutions in the ‘long twelfth century’, with a focus on Francophone elites, and particularly lay rulers’ appropriations of biblical and sacred elements. Her dissertation, titled "Biblical Translatio and the Making of Twelfth-Century Noble Cultures", explores how the earliest surviving French biblical translations and adaptations offer a window into previously overlooked aspects of noble self-fashioning.
