Overview
Isaac is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Medieval Studies Program. His work broadly focuses on the dynamics of Carolingian kingship and its presentation in contemporary sources (written or visual). His masters and undergraduate theses argued for a systemic understanding of Carolingian patterns of king-deposing and intra-family warfare in the ninth and tenth centuries.
Research Focus
Isaac's research is focused on early and high medieval political history and kingship, particularly within the Frankish realms and late Carolingian empire but also throughout Northern Europe. He is interested in the political realities that guided kingship and the tensions inherent within it. He also studies how medieval texts, including those from Old English or Old Norse contexts, engaged with themes of mobility, ethnic identity, and history-crafting.
