Overview
Kyle is a second year PhD student in Cornell's Medieval Studies Program and the vice president of the Medieval Studies Student Colloquium.
Research Focus
Kyle's research follows the reception of medieval lyric and ballad within the greater disciplinary context of 19th and 20th century ethnomusicology and race science. Kyle is especially interested in tracing the relationship between medievalisms and American heritage politics alongside the settler-colonial dynamics and anti-miscegination legislature of Appalachia, a geographical zone which is infmaous for its musical anglo-saxonisms and cultural celebration of medieval inheritance. As an interdisciplinary scholar, his research seeks to express the necessity for multi-disciplinary historigraphical accounts of the institutionalization of medieval studies as a discipline, as well as the cultural consequences of the medieval imaginary.
