The Festival of Medieval Readings is a time when we invite medievalists and medieval enthusiasts to read aloud a small section of a medieval text. The atmosphere is informal and celebratory in the cozy warmth of the Big Red Barn. The event is open to the Cornell community.
This year, the festival will take place on December 8th, a Tuesday (the day after the last day of classes), from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Big Red Barn. A host of colorful courtly figures will be visiting us throughout the festival and paying their dues to our emcee, King Arthur (Cagney Kelshaw).
We are seeking submissions of readings for this year's programme. Ideally, a reading would be around five minutes at most, keep it short and sweet. Please upload your text, both the original language and a translation (with citation of translation if it is not your own), to this shared Google Drive folder**. Feel free to be creative and imaginative with the readings! There are no limitations on what can be read (language, genre, chronology, geographic origin, etc.), as long as, in some way, it has a relationship with 'the medieval' broadly conceived. This can include medievalisms, which have been featured in the festival in the past. We would ask anyone wishing to participate to upload their materials by December 4th (Google Drive Folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1isMFS1kuwrfyLcx0G6kUQeOBVhY2_HNL?usp=sharing)
